The Trust’s support in this area addresses the growing mental health crisis in the UK with particular focus on support for young people.

Spotlight: Place2Be

It is both inspiring and an honour to be part of the Bernard Lewis Family Charitable Trust portfolio of charities, working to make a difference for children and young people. The Trust has supported Place2Be’s work since 2016 bringing real empathy, curiosity, supportive challenge and commitment to our discussions together. Our relationship is characterised by trust, humility, a deep understanding of our work, an appetite to understand the challenges that we and our communities face, open, honest dialogue and a genuine commitment to working together to make a meaningful difference. Energised and encouraged by the generous support of the Trust we have been able to innovate, grow, learn, strengthen and adapt our work in line with the evolving needs of children, young people and our school communities and together to make a lasting difference when it matters most.
Catharine Roche, CEO Place2Be

Place2Be supports the mental health and future prospects of children and their families by offering therapeutic and emotional support within schools. Working at the heart of school communities, they provide direct mental health services to children in both primary and secondary schools, while also offering guidance and resources to teachers and parents across the UK.

According to the NHS, one in five children and young people are living with a probable mental health condition, with half of all lifetime mental health issues beginning before the age of 14. These young people often face challenges in school and struggle to build healthy relationships. Through early intervention, Place2Be helps children address their difficulties before they escalate.

Place2Be’s work builds confidence and resilience, improving children’s wellbeing and helping them engage more positively with their education. In addition, Place2Be trains school staff and counsellors to better support children’s mental health needs.
